Government has appointed Brigadier General Forster Okae-Yeboah, Director General of Joint Operations at the Ghana Armed Forces, to spearhead a nationwide flood mitigation exercise as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s response to recurring floods and protect lives and property during the rainy season.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Government Communications, Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a Facebook post on Thursday, July 1, where he introduced the senior military officer as the leader of what he described as an “uncompromising, robust and all-action” flood mitigation operation.

The move signals the Government’s determination to intensify measures to address one of Ghana’s most pressing environmental and public safety challenges, following recurrent flooding that has affected several communities across the country in recent years.

“Meet Brigadier General Forster Okae-Yeboah, Director General, Joint Operations, Ghana Armed Forces,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu wrote.

“He has been tapped to lead an uncompromising, robust, and all-action Flood Mitigation Exercise.”

As Director General of Joint Operations, Brigadier General Okae-Yeboah is responsible for coordinating operational activities within the Ghana Armed Forces, including planning and executing joint missions.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu also announced that the Brigadier General would brief the nation on the exercise and outline the measures being implemented to minimise the impact of flooding.

“At 11am tomorrow morning, he will address the public on the operations of his team and steps being taken to decisively protect Ghanaians from further flooding,” the Minister stated.
